Our Advocacy

For the past few years, mental health issues have been receiving a lot of spotlight from the society. Almost every single advocacy and awareness are circled around the mental wellness of the people. It is such a crucial problem, since mental illnesses are actually common all around the world. Based on a study in 2017, it estimates that 792 million people lived with a mental health disorder. This is slightly more than one in ten people globally suffers and live with mental illnesses (10.7%). Mental illnesses include many different conditions that vary in degree of severity, ranging from mild to moderate to severe. Two broad categories can be used to describe these conditions: Any Mental Illness (AMI) and Serious Mental Illness (SMI). AMI encompasses all recognized mental illnesses. SMI is a smaller and more severe subset of AMI.

264 million people (3.4%) suffers from depression, 284 million people (3.8%) suffers from anxiety attack, and a staggering 970 million of people (13%) is suffering from any mental or substance use disorder. These number are incredibly alarming but unfortunately, most of the people is not aware on the reality of seeking for professional help.

Consultations and medications cost almost half or sometimes, more than people’s minimum wage. The ugly truth behind the hardships of acquiring professional help is often skipped from the advocacy groups and this is where my advocacy will stand. To provide an affordable and sustainable solution for people who can’t afford their own medications.

Societal Gap

There is a massive  discrepancy between the messages about finding help for mental health issues and the actual execution of battling mental health issues. Most people are not aware of how expensive it can be, and finally chose to not consider professional help as an option at all due to their financial limitations.

Ideal Goal

Therapies, consultations and medications would be covered by insurances or at least made available/accessible for the public. Mental health illnesses knows no gender, age, nor societal status. It should be widely accessible and available for everyone, no matter where they come from.

Bridging

Creating awareness on the reality of the issue. Ambitiously, we can have licensed therapists to go under our advocacy as professionals who supports the sentiments and provide a discount system for people who cannot afford to get their mental wellness checked, in order to create a wave of support and hopefully get the attention of the insurance companies to include mental health medications under their care.
